Gotta Love that SquidLit!

Have you given SquidLit a try? It’s a little ripper!

SquidLit is a portal specifically for lenses about books and it practically creates itself. But like other Squidoo quickbuilders (wizards), there’s a right way to use it and a (very) wrong way.

Why not open one now and have a look? Here’s the link to SquidLit (That opens in another window so you can still read this page)

This what the page looks like when you open it.

Pretty straightforward, eh? My grandson would say ‘Cool!

After you’ve typed in your book title and author, you will be taken to a page which firstly confirms that it’s the right book and then asks you

How obsessed are you? Just answer these 5 easy questions, so we can build you a really great book group discussion page.

Which is odd. There are only 4 questions.

1. Your review. Imagine you’re describing this book to a friend. What would you say? (Go ahead, rant and rave).

2. Write a quote! Step aside New York Times. What single quote or phrase would YOU write about this book? (Like, “A carnival of weird that will ruin your day” or “Utterly contemporary and deeply peculiar; I loved it”)

3. Do you know the author’s official website or blog? Add it here as a way to help more people discover his or her work.

4. What was the best line from the book? (It’s okay to paraphrase if you can’t look it up!)

Let me give you a tip. You don’t have to write everything in just now! Just write anything you like – you can always rewrite when you get to the actual lens workshop.

Let me give you another tip. Use that link Google, help me find some links!. Something super may pop up. Once again, you don’t have to use everything.

There’s a lot of modules in there, but I delete the ones I don’t want and add a few more to make my SquidLit personal. That’s what you want in your lens – the personal touch,

The modules in all of the Squidoo wizards aren’t set in concrete, they’re there to give you ideas.

First tell us about your opinion of the book, what made you choose to read it, what you got from it etc.

Have a look at those interactive modules, the Poll and the Duel. I always rewrite the answers in the Poll. Maybe people haven’t even read the book yet, so how can they rate it?

Have a think about that Duel module. It’s already titled Your Turn. Is there a question about the book, about an idea in the book, about a character in the book that would fit nicely into the Duel module?

The purpose of the Duel module is to engage your readers in a fight debate.

Type in the overall question and then choose two options as answers. Put a bit of meat into them!

Personally I don’t care for the wikipedia module but as I say, that’s my personal taste. You may like it, you may even love it! Your call.

I always add an About Me module to a SquidLit, indeed to every lens I make. You might consider that too.

Here’s a SquidLit Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor

Best of luck with it! Send me the link when you’ve finished.
