Hello Susanna,

Your advice is wonderfully appreciated. I have taken on-board your suggestions and have already updated the lens. In regards images, where would I locate larger images if I link to them? Also, Ithanks for the suggestion about WIP, I will need to find out more about them before I can append the info to the lens.

With thanks,
Steven Vella

Great tips, Susanna. I have a surge protector because we have frequent power fluctuations and thunder storms, but I have never dusted my computer as you suggested.

Good advice. In the UK we tend to not have surge suppressors in the home that often, since the power is a lot more reliable most of the time, but I had to switch to using a UPS in Indiana, because often when there was a severe thunderstorm, the power would go, come back, and halfway through rebooting the computer the power would go off again. That type of activity will wreak havoc on your processor and hard drives.

I have seen what a dirty environment does to a pc too, even at home where a tower case has been sited under a desk for several years. The pc needs to be included in the annual spring clean as much as anything else.

And don't smoke around computers - what builds up in the heatsink is truly disgusting, never mind that smoke particles are twice the size of the distance between hard drive platter and read/write heads - if the smoke enters via the HD breather it can cause a catastrophic collision between head and platter resulting in physical damage and data loss.

Just looked at your Kindle for PC link. Now that's something I can download on my new laptop. I'm suddenly finding new uses for it all the time.

I wouldn't ever buy anything at Dick Smiths. I spose he puts back into the community and isn't such a bad guy but he has always sold things more expensively than elsewhere.

This could well be a very useful tip. Seeing how most people try to cram as many links as possible into the signature, I thave done the same. Will be trying this myself

Great advice. When I first started I didn't understand about (or how to create) an in-text link, so that is excellent info to include. My problem then became over-use, I had to break myself of the habit of linking to my own content (on one domain) in every single post.
